Marinara sauce is a classic sauce that is used mainly in pasta dishes, but it is versatile enough to be used in other dishes like risotto. Marinara sauce recipe includes tomatoes, garlic, herbs, and onions. There are variations which can include olives, capers, spices, and wine.
Here we’re going to give you the standard marinara sauce recipe and then marinara pasta recipe.
Marinara Sauce Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 clove garlic chopped
- 1 onion chopped
- 8 oz passata
- 14 oz tin of tomatoes
- 1/2 tsp oregano
- 1 tsp caster sugar
- salt
Instructions
- Heat the olive oil and sauté the garlic and onion until they are tender. This should take 2 – 4 minutes. Stir often.
- Put in the tin of tomatoes, the passata, oregano, sugar and salt.
- Bring to the boil and then simmer for about 20 minutes.
- Keep stirring while it is simmering. It is then ready to add to a dish.
Italian Meatballs With Marinara Sauce
Here is a great marinara pasta recipe. Ingredients for 1 pound spaghetti.
For meatballs, you need ½ pound ground beef, 1 pound ground pork, 1 egg, ½ cup breadcrumbs, ½ teaspoon smoked paprika, ½ teaspoon chili powder. Salt and pepper to taste.
Also, you need to take ½ cup grated parmesan cheese, ¼ cup milk, 1 teaspoon dried basil.
For sauce take 3 cloves garlic, 1 chopped onion, 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, 1 ½ cups marinara sauce, ½ cup red wine, 1 teaspoon sugar. Salt and pepper to taste.
Put ½ cup marinara sauce on a baking tray. Mix the meatball ingredients together and then form into balls. Put them on the baking tray and bake at 400F for 20 minutes.
While the meatballs are cooking, make the sauce. Melt the butter and then sauté the onion until it is soft. Add the garlic and sauté till tender. Put in the marinara sauce, the wine, sugar, salt, and pepper. Bring to the boil and simmer for 30 minutes.
12 minutes before the sauce and meatballs are ready, put the spaghetti on to cook.
Put some spaghetti on each plate. Mix the sauce with the meatballs and put on top of the spaghetti.
